June, 2019. Foster and his son, Marshall, help a friend, Chris Egghart, catch his first sailfish. After Chris' reel locked up, Foster and his son teamed up, cut the line and successfully re-tied it to a new spool -while still keeping the fish on -allowing for this great shot. Now that's fishing.
In 1937, Buddy's Uncle Ernal started the first charter boat, The Albatross I, and is also credited with being a founder of the sport fishing industry in North Carolina.
As the only boat mechanic on the Island in the late 1960's, Buddy's father, Desmond, Sr., spent his career repairing boats and had the first full-service boat yard in Hatteras.
Fishing runs in the family's veins and the Fosters continue to pull in record holding fish throughout the years.
Displayed at the library in the center of town, Captain Bill Foster and First Mate Ernie Foster's mount hangs as a proud reminder of the Foster's family history in Hatteras.
Ernal is memoralized for his contributions as a pioneer of offshore fishing.
While mating for Dr. Overby, Desmond Sr, caught this very long and very skinny blue marlin. Our only guess is that this female may have just given birth.
